When did you begin your court reporting career?
1987

What sparked your interest in choosing court reporting as a profession?
My complete fascination with the steno keyboard and love of English.

What advice would you give students or those just entering the field of Court Reporting?
Practice your skills and always reach higher. Obtain your certifications. Never be afraid of a new challenge. Keep interested in your job. Start growing and never stop. Find a mentor and never be afraid to ask for help when you need it! Someone has always been where you are and can help.

What is your favorite thing about being a reporter?
Learning new things. I enjoy the flexibility of the scheduling. I love the challenge. And after all of these years, I still love writing on that little machine.

As a Court Reporter, what is your worst nightmare or biggest pet peeve?
My worst nightmare is arriving to a job and, once there, realizing I don’t have my machine. That’s a recurring dream and, so far, it hasn’t happened. My biggest pet peeve is having technical difficulties creep up that I can’t fix.

Where is the strangest place you have taken a deposition?
Nothing too strange. If I had to answer, I guess I would say in a church.

What is the funniest thing you have heard during a deposition or in the courtroom?
During an EUO, the witness showed up and was obviously high on something. He told an amazing story of having been picked up by aliens and flown around to different places. Then when he finished, he just walked out. It was very strange.

When not court reporting, how do you spend your free time?
Enjoying downtime at home with my pets (four dogs and several cats). I enjoy reading, movies and traveling.

What do you like most about LiveDeposition?
The amazing support. Whenever I have had a problem, I have always been able to reach someone right away. The support technicians have always been kind, understanding and have helped me fix every issue!

Anything else you would like to share?
I love this career and the life it has afforded me. I’m a happy and lucky guy!
